Echocardiography

Transthoracic echocardiography is an examination that provides a dynamic image of your heart and the blood flow through it. This examination is carried out by means of a probe placed on the chest.

The purpose of echocardiography is :

  • To assess cardiac function.
  • Establish abnormalities in the function of the heart muscle, valves or pericardium.
  • To diagnose congenital heart disease.
  • Follow the evolution of a diseased valve.
  • To diagnose the presence of an abnormal mass or clot.

Conduct of the examination :

You will lie on your left side. With the help of a little gel, the doctor will be able to visualise the heart and carry out the necessary measurements. The examination takes a maximum of 15 to 20 minutes.
